Event description

Circular Design and Thinking in Systems

The many facets to the Circular Economy - How our Circular Design Framework embraces “Thinking in Systems”

Our infrastructure lays a foundation for people, places and businesses to thrive. Countries across the globe face a significant challenge to meet the infrastructure demands of the future, whilst transitioning towards net-zero carbon by 2050 and shifting to a circular economy. Government entities and businesses are looking for guidance on what this means for them and are challenging designers to help in the response, by embedding sustainability and circular design principles as business-as-usual.

Beca’s Circular Design Framework helps deliver a response to these aspirations through providing guidance to identify and implement opportunities to; support the integration of CE principles; embed te ao Māori; broader outcomes; social procurement and the need for resilience and adaption to climate change in the delivery of our projects.

Join us at this panel evening event where we will present our Circular Design Framework and lead a thought provoking panel discussion with external guest speakers to discuss how this systems thinking approach will change the linear economy we currently operate in by not just asking you to think 'outside the box' but to think outside the 'institutional building' you work in.

Come and learn about how we can address the complex interactions within our current systems and bring together different world views to support new ways of thinking and technological and design innovation to lead the way towards a low carbon future and an equitable transition to a circular economy. We need to disrupt current standards, supply chains and business models to create change in how we design, deliver and use technology.

This event will be hosted by Debbie O Byrne, Circular Economy Principal at Beca.
