City Nature Challenge: Bird and Bug Investigation

Join us for a fun and informative bird and bug surveying experience at yaluk barring (formerly Sydenham) park as part of the City Nature Challenge. Whether you're a seasoned birdwatcher or bug enthusiast or a beginner, this event is a fantastic opportunity to connect with nature, learn about local species, and contribute valuable data to this global biodiversity initiative.

Our team of experts will guide you through the park’s spectacular valley, helping you spot a variety of native bird and bug species that call the area home. Participants will record their sightings using the iNaturalist app, contributing to the Greater Melbourne's project in the City Nature Challenge, the world's largest citizen science event. It’s a great way to get outdoors, engage with the community, and help make a real difference in conservation efforts.

What to Bring: Dress for the weather. Must have long pants, sturdy shoes, binoculars (if you have them), and a smartphone with the iNaturalist app downloaded (if possible).

Directions: Meet at the Keilor Public Golf Course carpark which is located within yaluk barring park. Access to the golf course, located on Farr Parkway, is via Kings Road off the Calder Freeway.

Accessibility: This walk will be off-track and on gravel roads [approx. 30 minute walk]. Children are very much welcome but must be supervised by an adult at all times.
