City to Church Fun Run
Event description
We're super excited to launch our inaugural City to Church Fun Run!
Coming up on September 12th, 2020 you're invited to get some fresh air, make new friends, and help us raise $10,000 for new carpet in Centrepoint Maddington's auditorium.
How can I get involved?
There are two ways you can get involved:
1) 21.1km Half Marathon Run
You'll be meeting at 8:30AM at Elizabeth Quay ready for a 9AM start at the Spanda. You'll be running over the pedestrian bridge, along the foreshore, over the Metagarup Bridge, circle Optus Stadium then follow the train line all the way to Maddington station before reaching the finish line inside the Centrepoint Maddington's auditorium.
2) 4km Walk/Run from Mills Part
Both the options are non-professional runs and are designed to increase physical and mental health, build great friendships, and raise funds for the community centre/church. There will be times you'll need to stop for traffic and we won't have exclusive footpath use throughout the run. But it's ok, this is not designed to be the launch of your Olympic career.
What's required for me to run the half-marathon?
- Good level of fitness
- A Willingness to attempt it
- Aim to raise $100+ in sponsorship
- Be 16 years+ (parent/guardian permission required for those under 18)
What's required for me to participate in the 4KM walk/run?
- Aim to raise sponsorship
- Readiness to have fun!
- Parental supervision required for under 16's
How do I get there/home?
If you're doing the half-marathon, you can either take public transport from the Maddington train station to Elizabeth Quay, have someone drop you off or a shuttle bus will be leaving Centrepoint Maddington at 8AM.
For those part of the 4km walk/run, park your vehicle at Mills Park and a shuttle bus service will be provided to return you to Mills Park at the end of the event.
When can I start fundraising?
The official fundraising campaign opens on 2nd August 2020. Details will be sent out once you register.
Do I need to be a part of Centrepoint Church to participate?
Not at all, this is a community event and anyone can be involved.
Why are we fundraising for carpet?
Centrepoint Church is a community-based organisation right in the heart of Maddington. The building is used for a range of different community initiatives including for a disability empowerment program, youth engagement programs, community (free) tuition program for at-risk youth, annual free Christmas breakfast, and a weekly church service. Significant funding has been poured into the renovation of the community hub but the retro (not in a good way) carpet is stained, outdated, and in poor condition. The new carpet will make the place the Maddington community can be proud of and will help to expand our community reach.
What happens if we raise more than $10K?
We'd be thrilled because it means that we can bring forward plans to further renovate the facility including the carpeting of our newly constructed tuition rooms upstairs. All profits raised will be used exclusively for building renovation/upgrade purposes.
What about health and safety?
We'll be doing all we can to keep participants safe. All laws must be complied with very much including traffic laws. Entrants must not take pets on the run. Skateboards, rollerskates/ rollerblades or similar devices, are strictly forbidden due to the risk of injury to participants.
To ensure your safety and that of everyone else in the race, the use of headphones or any musical device is strongly discouraged. Any use of headphones is a safety hazard since such use may compromise a participant’s ability to hear critical safety and/or directional instructions, especially instructions that may arise in an emergency.
