Description

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Centre for Local Government (CLG) at the Institute for Public Policy and Governance (IPPG) and The Japan Local Government Centre (CLAIR Sydney) invite you to an interactive panel session on ‘Innovative and Creative Approaches to Local Government Challenges’.

This year's discussion

Local governments in Japan and Australia are navigating increasingly complex social, economic and environmental challenges. Rapid technological change, shifting community expectations, housing pressures, workforce shortages, changing demographics and constrained resources are driving councils to rethink how they deliver services, engage communities and create public value.

Traditional approaches are no longer sufficient to address the multifaceted challenges facing communities today. Local governments are increasingly exploring new ways of working that promote collaboration, innovation and adaptability while ensuring services remain responsive, accessible and sustainable.

This year's CLAIR Forum will showcase innovative and creative approaches being implemented by local governments across Japan and Australia. Through practical case studies and real-world examples, presenters will explore how councils are embracing new ideas, partnerships, technologies and community-led solutions to respond to emerging challenges and seize new opportunities.

What is the CLAIR Forum?

The CLAIR Forum is an annual half-day seminar organised and sponsored by CLAIR Sydney and IPPG:CLG, and has been held since 1995. The Forum continues to provide an important platform for Australian and Japanese local government officials and academics to exchange knowledge and explore solutions to shared challenges.

The Forum provides a unique opportunity for local government practitioners, policymakers, researchers and academics to share experiences, exchange ideas and learn from leading initiatives across different jurisdictions and cultural contexts.

Delivery style

This hybrid event, hosted both in person and on Zoom, will highlight innovative and creative approaches from local governments in Japan and Australia, showcasing practical initiatives, new ways of working and forward-thinking solutions to shared community challenges.
