Join Sarah Norton in a delicious creative journey where clay and nature and the ancient Japanese craft of shibori allow you to create stunning vessels using simple techniques used for thousands of years.

This workshop runs over 2 Saturday mornings.

Your single payment covers both sessions.

You will take home clay vessels that you have crafted via hand building of clay with stunning application of shibori as you bind and knot your foraged driftwood or lichen covered twigs to your vessel.

Held over two sessions (to allow clay drying and foraging in between), these two sessions deliver new creative discoveries; the gift of flow and finally a unique piece to take home.

Session One: Saturday 2nd December 9:30 - 12:30 - working with air drying clay we will create up to 2 vessels with carefully placed holes in preparation for the next session where we introduce shibori.

Session Two: Saturday 9th December 9:30 - 12:30 - using our now-dried vessels we will explore the art of shibori binding as we connect natural fibres such as drift wood to your vessels.

These two ancient crafts, clay work and shibori utilise the practice of deep focus and the heightening your senses through touch and design. Our ancestors have been forming vessels since the dawn of time; you too will be connecting into this deep remembering within your hands. Meanwhile Shibori is a rich and ancient means to connect. In this workshop we will be marrying the vessel with your chosen fibre - it may be twine, leather or hand made cordage to attach your drift wood pieces or twigs.

Each step is steeped in history and makes for a beautiful gift or a piece you simply can't part with.

Please note, being air drying clay there is no firing required and nor glazing process within these two workshops. You can of course varnish your final product if this calls you.
