Clean Up Australia Day – Friends of the Coorong

Friends of the Coorong are a community volunteering group who are dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the Coorong National Park and its significant natural and cultural heritage.

The volunteers of the Friends group have regularly hosted Clean Up Australia Day events along the 150 km of coastline and lagoons included in the park. These successful events have recovered huge amounts of rubbish including plastic bags, tyres, and rope.

On the 1st of March, Friends of the Coorong, alongside the National Parks and Wildlife Service are hosting another Clean Up Australia Day event, and everyone is welcome! We will pick up rubbish from the Noonameena lookout and along the nearby Coorong shoreline. All bags and gloves are provided, so no need to bring your own.

Afterwards, we will share a BYO picnic lunch at the National Parks office where there are seats, tables, basic kitchen facilities and a toilet. Tea and coffee will be provided.

ACCESSIBILITY/LOCATION:

this event is for all ages and interests. Please note, some level of fitness is required as the event includes walking on soft, sandy, uneven ground and picking up rubbish.

Toilets facilities are available 1km away at the National Parks office.

The event will start at Noonameena lookout, Seven Mile Road, Coorong. Look for the Friends of the Coorong banner!

• Insect repellent

• Drinking water

• Snacks

• Camera (optional)

The Friends of the Coorong’s heat policy states if the ABC TV weather report the night before a planned event forecasts the temperature at Victor Harbor to be 35o or greater, the event will be automatically cancelled. Also, if the fire danger warning is rated as extreme or catastrophic, the event will be automatically cancelled.
