Thinking Visually: Visual Strategies in BSL Interpreting and Translation
Description
About this workshop
What happens when we move beyond signs and start thinking visually?
Deaf people naturally experience and communicate information visually. For interpreters and translators, developing visual thinking can support more natural, engaging and effective BSL.
This practical 4-hour online CPD workshop explores how visual strategies are used in BSL and how they can enhance interpreting and translation practice. Through discussion, examples and reflection, participants will examine how meaning can be represented visually through Constructed Action (CA), Constructed Dialogue (CD), depiction and perspective.
Rather than focusing solely on individual signs, the workshop explores how visual thinking can support richer, more natural and more effective BSL communication.
Drawing on examples from Deaf communication, interpreting and translation practice, participants will consider ways of reducing English influence and developing greater confidence in visual BSL production.
The workshop will be delivered in British Sign Language and provides 4 hours of structured CPD.
