Climate action: what's the hold up?
Event description
Seven speakers, seven minutes, seven challenges, seven solutions. We’ve invited a diverse group of local experts to give us their take on what hampers effective climate action.
Ōtautahi Christchurch is well-placed to respond to climate change: we’ve got great people, plenty of renewable energy, and a geography that’s conducive to active transport. We already have the knowledge and technology to cut emissions. We can even improve our health, wellbeing, security and community connectedness at the same time. Myriad studies suggest timely action is cheaper than delay. So what’s holding us back? How do we move from speechifying and targets to real change? And what exactly is it we need to change?
Join us on Tuesday 25 October to hear from experts and passionate people working in this area. Speakers include:
- Madhis Azarmandi (University of Canterbury), lecturer in Educational Studies & Leadership
- Kera Sherwood O’Regan (Kāi Tahu), climate justice advocate
- Diarmaid Coffey, GP and co-convenor Ora Taiao NZ Climate & Health Council
- James Driver, psychotherapist
- Kamala Hayman, editor, The Press & Stuff Canterbury
- Sarah Maindonald
Learn about the steps we can take to reach our climate change goals as a city.
