Climate Café Facilitator Training Package 2026

Start your journey toward becoming a Climate Café Facilitator

Climate Café Facilitator Training Package is for anyone who wishes to facilitate Climate Cafés in their communities. The only pre-requisite for this training, is to have previously attended at least 3 Climate Cafés.

Live Online 3 Hour Training: 10am-1pm, Tuesday 20 October 2026

Training Package inclusions:

• Access to 3 low-cost PSC Climate Cafés (attendance of 3 Cafés is the only prerequisite for the live online facilitator training)

• Registration for the live online 3 hour training

• A Field Guide for Climate Café Facilitators

• 6 months free access to our Climate Cafe Community Facilitator Hub ($30 annually after that or free for PSC members)

• Access to 2 Café Facilitator Learning Circles (a quarterly gathering of PSC Café facilitators for learning, reflection and renewal)

Pre-requisites:

To attend this training session, you must have participated in at least 3 Climate Cafés beforehand. (They don't have to be PSC-run Cafés). You will be asked to provide details about those Cafés on booking, for verification. Those questions will be checked before the zoom link is sent, closer to the event date.

If you want to do this training but are not in a position to pay the full cost, please contact outreach@psychologyforasafeclimate.org to outline your experience with Climate Cafés, your reason for wanting to do the training, and to request financial support for a reduced price.

In the live, online training you will:

• Understand the PSC Climate Café model and how its origins developed from traditions like Yarning Circles, Death Cafés, and the Climate Psychology Alliance, and how PSC adapted these to an Australian context, and through a trauma-informed lens.

• Learn to facilitate the 3-stage Climate Café structure with a focus on the role of group agreements and the role this structure serves in creating the container for the Café. 

• Explore how to respond skillfully to a range of participant needs and emotional states — this includes recognising and gently working with highly verbal members, quiet/silent members, intellectualised responses, and dysregulated emotions, using empathic prompts and grounding strategies rather than trying to fix or solve.

• Understand the facilitator's role and the value of co-facilitation — participants learn the distinct responsibilities of Lead and Co-Facilitator roles, how to hold group process (not content), maintain a "window of tolerance," and use co-regulation to support participants' capacity to sit with difficult feelings.

• Gain practical tools to set up and run your own Climate Café — including identifying an audience, choosing format (in-person or virtual), deciding on group size, frequency, and logistics (e.g., disclaimers, charging), plus how to access ongoing support through PSC's Intervision group and facilitator community.

Climate Emotions 101 Online Course
You can undertake this course at a time that suits you - either before or after the live online training. Following your registration for the training package you will be sent the access link for this course.

Café Facilitator Learning Circles
As part of this training package, after completion of the live online training, participants are eligible to join two PSC Climate Café Facilitator Learning Circles. Café Facilitator Learning Circles are a program of ongoing peer-support sessions for Climate Café Facilitators and run quarterly. The next session is in November 2026.

Climate Cafe Facilitator Field Guide
A short field guide with everything you need to know about facilitating Cafés, including some basic troubleshooting, case studies and summaries of Café structures, facilitator roles etc.

Promotion templates/social media tiles

Following the live online training you will be able to access introductory slides on Climate Cafés and climate emotions and social media tile templates that you can adapt to your own context.

6 months free access to our Climate Cafe Community Facilitator Hub 

The Climate Cafe Community Facilitator Hub is a space for any Climate Cafe facilitators to find each other, connect, plan and discuss Cafés together. This hub is also where you can access ongoing Café resources (including the promotion templates, social media tiles, the PSC Climate Cafe Runsheet etc.)
