Event description
December Climate Community Night of 2023
The first Wednesday of every month, Climate Community Night hosts a gathering for those in the environmental space.
Neighbours of Fish Farming (NOFF) and Leave our Waters Collective (LOWCOau) will bring us a series of lowcoau films produced by environmental filmmaker Mike Sampey and discuss with us the issue of farmed Atlantic Salmon.
LOWCOau and Noff are collaborating with communities across the globe that are fighting to end the destructive practices of multinational Atlantic salmon producers in Tasmania's vulnerable public waterways.
Foreign-owned aquaculture corporations are turning Australian underwater wonderlands into wastelands, driving the rare Red Hand Fish, the
Burrunan Dolphin and the Marguen Skate to imminent extinction.
Their disregard for Indigenous cultural practices is heartbreaking. See liwcoaus film Truwana They are disrupting whale migration routes and shooting protected seals, dividing
communities and causing economic upheaval.
The Tasmanian activists from Neighbours of Fish Farming and Leave our Waters collective are determined to ensure mainland Australian consumers have the facts before purchasing
We are collaborating with communities across the globe that are fighting to end the destructive practices of multinational Atlantic salmon producers in Tasmania's vulnerable public waterways.
However, all Tasmanian environmental battles are eventually won on the mainland by Federal intervention, federal court litigation, and by sheer pressure from mainland public opinion.
So, in 2024, LOWCOau and NOFF will be rolling out a targeted campaign across Australia, online and face-to-face, to change consumer purchasing habits and bring pressure to bear on supermarkets to stop promoting and selling an unsustainable product. They are also launching a Federal lobbying campaign and will, with their partners, drive litigation through the courts and the ACC.
