CLIMATE LEADERSHIP & THE PACIFIC COP31

Event description

Dear friends,

We invite you to join us on the eve of the UN Climate Change Conference 2023 (COP28) for a unique opportunity to hear from one of the most influential voices advocating for climate action in the Pacific region, the Honourable Ralph Regenvanu, the Vanuatu Minister for Climate Change Adaptation, Energy, Environment, Meteorology, Geohazards, and Disaster Management.

Vanuatu, a nation highly susceptible to the impacts of climate change, is not only taking a leading role in global climate negotiations but is also actively pursuing one of the world's most ambitious climate plans.

Both now and as we look ahead to the potential co-hosting of the UN Climate Change Conference between Australia and the Pacific in 2026 (COP31), it is of utmost importance we equip ourselves with the knowledge, perspectives and relationships needed to collectively drive ambitious global climate action.

At this event, generously hosted by the Art Gallery of NSW, we will gain valuable insights into the Pacific's aspirations for the UN climate talks and learn about the intersection of climate change, solutions and resilience with politics, gender, justice, finance and more. Importantly, we will explore how Australian philanthropy can play a pivotal role in fostering solidarity and partnerships between the Pacific, First Nations leaders and the Australian civil and corporate sectors – support which can scale up ambition and action within Australia and globally.

Presented by Groundswell Giving and ActionAid Australia, with proud supporting partners Philanthropy Australia, AEGN and NEXUS Australia.
