Climate Champions: Community Screening
Event description
Learn from climate leaders, meet local climate champions, and connect with neighbours passionate about reducing our impact on the planet
Join us for a double screening of Great Ocean Love and Walanbaa Ngiiyani | Stronger Together, followed by panel discussion with local climate champions and light refreshments. We will also explore why offshore wind - if held to high community and environmental standards - can be good for our local economy and environment.
Great Ocean Love is part documentary, part road-trippin’ surf flick that follows Belinda Baggs, Linley Hurrell, and Lilly Pollard on a journey of discovery along the Great Ocean Road. Centred around the teachings of Gunditjmara whale dreamer Yaraan Bundle. Along the way, they meet saltwater women who share their love for the rugged coastline they call home. Directed by Ella Bourne
Walanbaa Ngiiyani | Stronger Together follows a motley crew of school students, Pacific Climate Warriors and Gomeroi First Nations Custodians as they come together in northwest New South Wales to visit the ancient lands and waters of the Gomeroi people. Together, as they confront the damaging impacts of mega coal mines and gas wells and work to protect lands and lives against the fossil fuel industry, we see that in the fight for climate justice we are walanbaa ngiiyani - stronger together.
Panel discussion with local climate champions will be hosted by Claire O'Rourke. Claire is a campaigner, communicator and behavioural change expert working to transform Australia into a global leader in climate solutions.
Our panel of local climate champions includes:
- Lilly Pollard is a professional bodyboarder, ocean lover and environmentalist, working in natural areas restoration and management on Dharawal country. Lilly is a proud ambassador for Take 3 for the Sea and Surfers For Climate and features in Great Ocean Love.
- Anna Feldtmann is studying a Bachelor of Science with a major in Environment at the University of Wollongong. Growing up by the beach, Anna developed a deep appreciation for the beauty of the great outdoors.
