Event description

Closing the Gap in the Hunter

In a bid to help Close the Gap, a referendum on a Voice for First Nations Peoples will be put to the people of Australia in 2023. Here in the Hunter, efforts to establish a Regional Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) are also underway and Indigenous advocacy and thought leadership has been recognised with the crowning of Wiradjuri man Nathan Towney, as Newcastle Citizen of the Year. What do these initiatives mean for our region collectively?

Business Hunter is pleased to present a forum featuring Nathan Towney, University of Newcastle Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous Strategy and Leadership, and Wangkumarra/Barkindji man Sean Gordon, CEO of Uphold and Recognise and key representative on the government's Voice to Parliament Referendum Working Group, to present on and discuss the road ahead for these important initiatives and what it means for community, business and the region.

Proudly sponsored by KPMG.
