Clothing Exchange Brunswick

Did you know that 6 tonnes of clothing are thrown out every 10 minutes? Let's slow this down and have fun at the same time with a clothes swap hosted by The Clothing Exchange.

Merri-bek Council invites residents to bring along clothes that you no longer wear to exchange for some ‘new to you’ pieces! Bring along up to 8 garments and accessories that are no longer bringing you joy and exchange them for other items. It's like a whole new wardrobe for FREE!

Once you have washed and checked your garments for any flaws (we don't accept items that are stained, pilled or smelly) pack them up and bring them along to our swap at Brunswick Town Hall on Sunday 6 September.

At drop-off you will be given tokens to 'buy' some new pieces with - 1 token is equal to 1 item - it's like shopping without cash!

Garments must be good quality and free from stains, holes, pills and smells with plenty of wear left for their new life. Items will be screened at the event before being exchanged for tokens.

Please remember, once you have swapped your items for tokens, there is no going back, so please make sure you are detached from your clothing. Due to the volume of clothing at these swaps, it is not possible to find your goods if you change your mind.

·       Drop off your clothing: 10am – 10.30am (please arrive on time or we may not be able to accept your items)

·       Slow Fashion Talk in the Atrium: 10.30am – 11.30am

·       Swapping starts: 11.30am

·       Swap ends: 12.30pm

·       Bring: up to 8 items

·       Where: Brunswick Town Hall, 233 Sydney Road, Brunswick

We accept all adult sizes and genders. This swap is for adult or tween clothing only, no children's clothing please.

·       Tops, shirts, blouses, jackets and coats

·       Pants, jeans and shorts

·       Skirts, dresses and suits

·       Shoes (no boxes)

·       Accessories i.e. necklaces, belts, scarves, hats (please ensure small items cannot get lost easily

·       Wigs

·       Underwear, socks and swimwear

·       Sportswear and activewear

·       Costumes

·       Anything stained, torn or unclean

·       Noticeably worn out, shabby, pilling or frayed items

From 10.30 to 11.30 join Jenna Flood in the Atrium to hear about alternatives to fast fashion. Jenna is a passionate slow fashion advocate dedicated to helping people understand the issues surrounding fast fashion. She advocates for sustainable alternatives, such as pre-loved, swapping, renting and clothing made with sustainable practices. Jenna believes in slowing down clothing consumption by curating slow wardrobes and making long-term investments in clothing, rather than following short-lived trends. She envisions a future where more people participate in the sharing economy by renting, swapping or borrowing.
