CLOWN JAM Northern Rivers
Event description
Calling all clowns, fools, physical theatre artists, and curious humans craving fun, joy, and silliness! A new, ongoing Northern Rivers Clown Jam is kicking off at Coorabell Hall — followed by an optional shared lunch on the balcony.
This playful, heart-opening space welcomes adults 15+ to explore red nose clown through physical theatre, improvisation, and games. Whether you’re a performer, a student of physical theatre, or simply clown-curious, these relaxed, low-pressure sessions invite you to embrace your ridiculous self, test ideas, and reconnect with the joyful art of clown.
Co-facilitated by Sally ‘Sparkles’ Davis and Dave Houston — seasoned performers with 30+ years’ training in clown, physical theatre, and acting — the jam draws inspiration from Giovanni Fusetti’s The Tao of Clown. Through physical games, group play, and improvisation, sessions gently build toward working with the red nose: the smallest mask in the world and a powerful gateway to authentic, comic expression.
Participants are invited to explore their unique comic persona, embracing imperfections and transforming them into joy and connection. Expect structured games, peer feedback, character play, and lots of belly laughs — with no pressure to perform or be perfect.
