Low food waste cooking demo with OzHarvest and Bec Bowie (Estabar Cafe)
In 2004, two women started feeding their communities in completely different ways. Bec Bowie opened ESTABAR on Newcastle Beach, a café built to nourish people one plate at a time. The same year, Ronni Kahn loaded up a single yellow van in Sydney and started OzHarvest, rescuing surplus food from events and hospitality venues to feed people in need. 22 years on, those two paths have crossed. Bec has shifted her focus from feeding people to tackling the bigger problem behind the plate, helping Hunter hospitality venues slash waste to landfill. Now she's sharing the stage with OzHarvest to spread their mission: Feed People, Not Landfill. It's a mission the numbers make urgent. 3.5 million Australian households are food insecure. Yet Australia wastes 7.6 million tonnes of food every year, enough to fill Newcastle Ocean Baths roughly 1,169 times. OzHarvest exists to close that gap. Join OzHarvest, Australia's leading food rescue organisation, and Bec Bowie for a talk dedicated to fighting food waste. You'll walk away with fresh insight into our food system as well as practical, chef approved tips from Bec, backed by OzHarvest's expert resources, to help you save money, protect the planet, and turn what you thought was "waste" into a nourishing meal. PS. We will cook up a tasty snack from scraps for you to enjoy. DONATION NOTE: the donation fee contributes to funding future Repair Cafes at Clyde St Arts

Repair is not only for objects: Wellbeing and Meditation with Moj Habibi
This quiet wellbeing space offers moments of stillness, reflection, and renewal, inspired by the idea that just as treasured items can be restored with care, our inner selves also benefit from attention, balance, and gentle repair. Within a peaceful healing room, each session unfolds as a unique experience, weaving together aura cleansing, guided meditation, Reiki-inspired healing, and other gentle practices that invite calm, connection, and a sense of inner renewal. Participants are invited to pause, reconnect with themselves, and experience a space of care, presence, and wellbeing within the spirit of the Repair Café. Sessions will be offered in small groups and each session will run for approximately 20 minutes. Bookings are required in advance to reserve a place. Sessions begin at 4pm, with a new group commencing every 30 minutes throughout the afternoon, allowing time between sessions for transition and preparation. _)__)__)__)__ Dr Moj Habibi is a Persian-Australian artist, educator, Reiki Master Teacher and community leader based in New South Wales. Holding a PhD in Fine Art from the University of Newcastle, she has worked for more than twenty years across art, education, community wellbeing, and cultural engagement.
