CNC Growing Friends November and December 2025
Event description
CNC GROWING FRIENDS
Want to get involved with the Community Garden?
There are two ways you can come along and be a part of the new CNC Growing Friends group:
VOLUNTEER:
3rd Saturday of the Month
Coinciding with the Creswick Market, we will be running volunteer mornings where you can come along and get involved by helping with plant sales or propagating plants. We will also be doing various other activities as needed – working on the vegetable beds, harvesting produce or collecting seeds. Everyone is welcome, so why not drop in for a look around after you’ve visited the market and see if this might be something you would like to get involved in.
WORKSHOPS:
1st Saturday of the Month
A series of fun and informative workshops to improve your gardening skills. Each workshop builds on the previous one, so that over the year you will effectively be completing an “Introduction to Horticulture”. They are also offered as stand-alone events, so please feel free to enrol in just one or two or sign up for the entire year.
NOVEMBER: PLANT NUTRITION & DEFICIENCIES
In this workshop, we’ll explore how plants access and use the nutrients they need to thrive. You’ll learn how to recognise the signs of nutrient deficiencies, understand what causes them, and discover simple, effective ways to restore balance. We’ll look at nutrient deficiency charts, Brix readings, and how to tell the difference between disease, insect attack, and nutritional problems. You’ll also gain an understanding of foliar feeding, the nitrogen cycle, and practical ways to improve plant health naturally.
DECEMBER: PESTS & DISEASES
This month we take a closer look at common garden pests and diseases - what they are, why they appear and how to manage them effectively. Learn how to identify the early signs of trouble, understand the conditions that invite pests and pathogens, and explore natural and integrated approaches to prevention and control. We’ll cover beneficial insects, plant health as the first line of defence and how to restore balance when things go wrong. Perfect for anyone wanting to grow healthier, more resilient plants with fewer chemicals.
