Co-op Kids Cooking Camp
Event description
A summer camp all about cooking!
We invite children ages 11-14 for one week to join us at the MFC for one week to learn hands-on cooking skills. Each class will begin with a short interactive lesson on healthy eating.
Students will then make a meal that relates to the lesson that day and serves as their lunch. The meals will provide students with the opportunity to develop knife skills, use the stovetop, learn safe food handling practices, and taste foods with flavors from around the world.
Please note that while there will always be a vegetarian and gluten-free option for students, the classroom is used to prepare many types of food for other classes. It is not recommended for students with severe allergies due to possible cross contamination. Please contact us if you have questions about whether the class is appropriate for your child.
Contact Sarah at 906-225-0671 x711 for more information.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there an age requirement?
The curriculum of every class is unique and designed for the advertised student age. Different ages require different supports, including how many staff we have on hand, what level of knife skills and stove use we can integrate, and how complex the recipe is. It impacts the experience of the other students when students too young for the curriculum attend. Please do not register children younger than the advertised age of the class so that we can create the best experience possible for the students who are ready for more responsibility in the kitchen.
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Sure. But if you send someone in your place to the class, please have them bring your ticket.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No, you do not have to bring your printed ticket to the event. If you can’t attend and want to give your ticket to someone else, it is helpful if they bring it to the event.
Will there be aprons available?
You are welcome to bring an apron if you like, as often you will assist in preparing some of the dishes in the class. We have a few aprons to hand out, but there is a limited supply, and they are claimed quickly.
Refund Policy:
Refunds will only be guaranteed for cancellations with at least 4 days’ notice. Refunds are not given for people who do not show up for the class or cancel after tickets sales have ended.
Please note that refunds will include the ticket price less the Humanitix fees (which consist of the payment processing fee and service fee combined). If the Marquette Food Co-op cancels the class or postpones it and you’re unable to attend, refunds will be for the full cost, including the ticket price and the Humanitix fees.
Can I get on a waitlist?
Yes. Humanitix has a waitlist feature. When a ticket becomes available, the first waitlisted guest will be notified via email with a link to purchase tickets. Every 30 minutes, the next guest in line will be notified if tickets are still available. Once every waitlisted guest has been notified, available tickets will be reopened to the public. Waitlisted guests will need to purchase tickets while they are available as their tickets will not be held.
