Code of Ethics Noho March 2021

Event description

The Code of Ethics for Youth Work in Aotearoa defines key values and standards for youth workers in Aotearoa. Developed around the six principles of the Youth Development Strategy Aotearoa, the Code is comprised of 27 clauses critical to effective, ethical youth work practice and practical examples of how they might apply in youth work.

It's not about what you can't do. It's about growing in solid youth development practice for our rangatahi and celebrating the unique and necessary approach that defines youth work.

The Code of Ethics for Youth Work in Aotearoa does not have a 'Treaty clause', instead a commitment to biculturalism is woven throughout the document. In order to have our Ethics Training better reflect this, we hold our training at a marae. Don't be shy! We know many of our Youth Workers haven't had the opportunity to stay at a marae before, but there will be a lot of value for your personal and professional development by weaving this in with Ethics training.

Also, this training is a prerequisite for membership with the Canterbury Youth Workers Collective and as part of our commitment to the bicultural journey, the overnight stay aspect to the noho is required of all participants.

Payment Policy:

These trainings are highly subsidised by the Department of Internal Affairs and without this sponsorship, each participant would need to pay $200 approx. Refunds are available through this ticketing system 7 days prior to training or in the case of illness, otherwise, refunds would only be considered under significant circumstances. Any registrant who does not attend and does not communicate with CYWC Staff will need to be invoiced for the full cost of the training.

Alert levels:

We are planning this event under the assumption that we will be at alert level one. If we are at alert level two the training will be a two-day event with no overnight stay and timings will be advised. If we are at alert level three or more the event will be cancelled and refunds will be processed.

Any questions (or to check if you're a member), email Harriet Boyle at admin@cywc.org.nz
