Description

After a string of sold-out Crime with Wine events in Perth, the team from Books in the Brewery is coming to Mount Barker for a caffeinated version of their fan-favourite panel.

Come, sit, sip your coffee, and be entertained by three of WA’s brightest talents. This isn't a typical library event; it’s a casual morning for people who love a good page-turner. Our guest authors will discuss their latest books and dive into all things crime, from their favourite fictional detectives and must-watch TV mysteries to the "real-life" inspirations behind their most devious plots.

Complimentary coffee, tea and light refreshments. Free entry. Bookings essential.

Lineup

  • Louise Wolhuter

Winner of the 2025 WA Premier’s Fiction Book of the Year for her hauntingly beautiful psychological mysteries, Shadows of Winter Robins and An Afterlife for Rosemary Lamb.

  • Kate Emery

WA Premier’s Book Award winner and author of the sharp, witty mysteries A Murder is Going Down and My Family and Other Suspects.

  • Alexander Thorpe

WA Premier’s Award-shortlisted author of the Mendicant Monk mysteries, "cosy historical crime" novels set right here in WA.

Agenda

  • What To Expect

A relaxed chat about the "art of a good yarn." Why do we love a mystery? How do you weave the rugged WA landscape into a crime scene? And do ideas come from real life, or just too much late-night TV? This is also your chance to join the conversation. Ask about their creative process, their favourite local haunts, or even the best way to murder someone (strictly in a fictional sense, of course). You may also enjoy short, atmospheric readings as the authors share a few of their favourite moments from crime fiction. We'll have a range of books from our guests available to buy (card or bank transfer only) or bring your own from home to be signed.
