Welcome to the inaugural Coffee Weekend Cup.

To cap off the Coffee Weekend Melbourne festival we are hosting a brewing competition in collaboration with Origami to crown a 2026 champion.

First place will win $1000 cash with extra prizes and giveaways for the runners up.

We will be capping the competitor numbers at 25. Competitors will be selected randomly from the total number of applicants two weeks before the competition date. All applicants will be notified by Christian from Market Lane Coffee.

Competitors on the evening will be provided with:

Origami Dripper S

Origami grain dripper holder

Origami Harmony Cup

Temperature control gooseneck kettle

Cafec Abaca Coffee 2 - 4 cup Paper Filter

Competitors must provide:

Preferred hand grinder

Preferred scales

Competitors are welcome to provide:

Alternative filter papers if preferred

Personal kettle if preferred

Competition rules:

Elimination rounds with one winner from each round (round sizes to to be determined)

The winners of each round decided by a three judge panel via majority decision with a head judge able to override any stalemate decisions

Competitors must brew with an Origami dripper S

Competitors must brew a minimum 200ml brew. 100ml will be decanted and presented to the judges

Competitors will be allowed 5 minutes setup time at the start of each round to:

Heat Water

Colour sort beans

Weigh and prep brew dose

Competitors will have a maximum of 10 minutes to brew their coffee and decant it for judging

Competition Coffee:

The coffee will be Kii, from Kenya, roasted for filter by Market Lane.

Can I use my own water? Yes

Can I use Apex (or other) minerals? Yes

Can I use a thermometer? Yes

Can I bypass? Yes

Can I get a sample of the competition coffee ahead of time? Yes 100g is available to collect

Can I have someone advise and assist during prep and brew time? No

Can I borrow as Origami dripper S ahead of time? No, you must source your own

Can I invite a friend along for support? Yes but they must purchase an admission ticket

How do I know if I have been selected? You will be notified either way of you have been selected or put on the waiting list.

It costs $10 to compete. Will I get my money back if I am not selected? Yes, if not selected you will receive a full refund.
