    Event description

    Collaborative Housing Fundamentals.

Reimagining My House, Our Home. Realising Collaborative Housing Visions. A 3-part Workshop Series

In November 2023 RMIT University researchers collaborated with Castlemaine Free University and My Home Network to host a workshop about Resident-Led Collective Housing. The enthusiasm expressed by participants to pursue housing solutions together and house local community more appropriately has inspired this 3-part workshop series.

Last year we asked "is there interest and resources in Castlemaine to pursue collaborative housing?" and the answer was a resounding YES.

This year we are responding to that Yes, bringing researchers, industry, and residents knowledgable in Collective/Collaborative housing to Castlemaine to share experiences.

The workshops are free to community members and we hope you will come along, meet potential new neighbours, and work together to shape a new housing future with a community focus.

The three workshops will cover distinct but complimentary topics.

    • Sept 22nd Workshop 1 : Visions - what is collaborative housing to you and the need to develop a shared vision. Facilitators: RMIT academics and design consultant.
    • Oct 27th Workshop 2: Processes - an overview of financing and legal processes. Facilitators: Development industry professionals.
    • Nov 2th Workshop 3: Design - working collaboratively on design and decision-making. Facilitators: RMIT academics and design consultant.

Each workshop will conclude with an opportunity for community discussion and networking. Workshops 2 and 3 will be tailored as appropriate to address participants questions and interests.

The workshops are designed to be complimentary and will build upon each other. Please register for September 22nd and that will constitute registration for all three workshops

Each Session will have the following structure:

    • 12:30-1:00pm Arrival and Chat
    • 1:00-2.15pm Workshop Part 1
    • 2:15-2:45pm Refreshments and Discussion (simple afternoon tea provided)
    • 2:45-4:00 Workshop Part 2
    • 4:00-4:30 Community Discussion

Keen for some pre-workshop listening? You can revisit last year's session here on the Saltgrass Podcast thanks to the fine work of local podcaster, Allie Hanly.
