COLLARTS | Summer Workshop Series

These Summer Holidays, we're opening our doors to Victorian High School students in years 10, 11 and 12, to take part in a series of practical, hands-on workshops!

Come and experience what it's like to live a day in the life of a Collarts student. We have 14 workshops to choose from across 3 days! See our full list of workshops below!

* All participants must present a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate and adhere to all safety protocols while on campus
* Please note, this is only open to High School students going into years 10, 11 or 12 in 2022, or those that completed year 12 in 2021. 
*Lunch will be provided for full-day workshops and snacks will be provided for half-day workshops

TUESDAY 11 JANUARY 2022


IMPROVISATION & SKETCH WRITING

Full-day - 10am - 4pm

Join us in our Black Box Studio for a full day of improvisation and sketch writing. Attendees will spend the morning learning improvisation techniques as an ensemble and then break off into small groups to write a small sketch that will be performed on our stage at the end of the day! 


ANIMATION LAB
Full-day - 10am - 4pm
Cromwell St Campus | 67/69 Cromwell St, Collingwood

In this practical, hands-on workshop, you'll be guided through the basics of Maya. We'll introduce you to this industry-standard software and show you the steps you need to take to create your own 3D model. Whatever your ability, you'll soon be able to design and sculpt a 3D prop that could be used in a computer game, animation film or VR environment.
 

SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT CREATION
Half-day - 10am - 1pm

What makes great content? In this workshop, Digital & Social Media lecturer Lucy Watson will guide you through what makes engaging content for Tik Tok, Instagram, Twitch and Pinterest. You'll unpack audiences, objectives and action, whilst looking at fun, interesting content across social and digital platforms!


MUSIC PERFORMANCE - INSTRUMENTAL MASTERCLASS
Full-day - 10am - 4pm

Join our music teachers and alumni, as they take you through an interactive instrumental performance masterclass. Learn technical and practical performance techniques, see our world-class recording studios in action, and learn about effective practice routines for you and your band! You'll also have the opportunity to collaborate and perform in our auditorium. 


MUSIC PERFORMANCE - VOCAL WORKSHOP
Full-day - 10am - 4pm

Join vocal teacher and musician Hailey Cramer in this exclusive vocal workshop. Learn technical and practical vocal techniques, collaborate with other vocalists to learn harmonies, while also learning about the importance of vocal health. You'll also have the opportunity to see our world-class studios in action and get some individual course and career advice.


MUSIC PERFORMANCE - SONGWRITING

Join Jesse Hooper (Killing Heidi and APRA Songwriter of the year) and Tim Wild (Taxiride) in this exclusive songwriting workshop. Learn songwriting, collaboration and co-writing techniques that will help you to know how to share your music with the world! You'll also have the opportunity to see our world-class studios in action and get some individual course and career advice.

AUDIO ENGINEERING | THE PHAT MIX SESSIONS
Full-day - 10am - 4pm

In this workshop, you will learn some cool and fun mixing techniques using industry-standard software Pro Tools, as well as Live Sound tips and tricks to impress your audience. Get the experience of working in our world-class studios, while also getting the live sound experience in our state of the art auditorium. 


INTERIOR DESIGN | INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOSHOP AND INDESIGN
Half-day - 10am - 1pm

In this workshop, you will be introduced to Photoshop and InDesign. We will take you through how to render a floor plan using Copic Markers, create an inspiration and materials board, and see how you can draw like an Interior Designer. This is perfect for students who are taking Visual Communication subjects at school and want to take their folio to another level!


FASHION STYLING
Half-day - 1pm - 4pm

In this workshop, you will learn the art of flat-lay styling in our purpose-built photography studio. This is a great opportunity to learn some of the important skills to help navigate studio equipment, studio lighting and learn techniques to style and stage fashion products in a professional environment.


SCREEN & MEDIA | WRITING A SHORT FILM
Full-day - 10am - 4pm

Join award-winning screenwriter Scout Cripps in this practical, hands-on workshop and learn how to write a festival-worthy short film. This workshop will offer you an excellent understanding of short screenplay structure and teach you how to build complex and compelling characters.

PHOTOGRAPHY | PORTRAITURE WORKSHOP
Full-day - 10am - 4pm

In this workshop, you will learn how to shoot that perfect portrait! We will take you through the fundamentals of portraiture camera techniques, lighting, posing and working with models. We will cover multiple lighting techniques both in a professional photography studio and on location using natural light.


MUSIC PRODUCTION | ABLETON LIVE WORKSHOP
Half-day - 1pm - 4pm

In this workshop, we will uncover the behind-the-scenes process of music production, and show you some of the essential tools a music producer uses in everyday music creation. During the workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of working with Ableton Live, which is one of the world's leading music production software! 


FASHION DESIGN | WHAT WAS OLD, IS NEW AGAIN
Half-day - 10am - 1pm
George St Campus | 2/156 George St, Fitzroy
Join our Head of Fashion & Sustainability, in this hands-on workshop that will show you how to transform what you thought was old, into a brand new garment. This workshop will give you an understanding of the sustainable fashion techniques taught in our Fashion & Sustainability course and will have you reinventing and repurposing a t-shirt for a more fashionable future! 


ENTERTAINMENT MANAGEMENT | MARKETING AN ARTIST
Half-day - 10am - 1pm

Wellington St Campus | 208 Wellington St, Collingwood
This Entertainment Management focused workshop will teach you about how artists can market their products and how audiences find and connect with them. Participants will receive an introductory overview of key marketing strategies to build an audience and develop solutions to releasing creative products.
