COLLARTS | Summer Workshop Series

These Summer Holidays, we're opening our doors to Victorian High School students going into years 10, 11 and 12 in 2023, and those that finished year 12 in 2022, to participate in a series of practical, hands-on workshops!

Come and experience what it's like to live a day in the life of a Collarts student. We have 13 workshops to choose from across 3 days! See our full list of workshops below!

* Please note, this is only open to High School students going into years 10, 11 or 12 in 2023, or those that completed year 12 in 2022

MONDAY 23 JANUARY 2023


AUDIO ENGINEERING | LIVE MIXING, DOLBY ATMOS AND PRO TOOLS
Full-day - 9:30am - 4:30pm
Wellington St Campus | 208 Wellington St, Collingwood

This workshop will allow students to play with world-class equipment including mixing live sound, Dolby Atmos and using Pro Tools. Students get hands-on, in small groups, to get a taste of what the Collarts Audio Engineering degree is all about.

ACTING | CREATING A CHARACTER
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm
George St Campus | 2/156 George St, Fitzroy
In this workshop our Head of Performing Arts and award-winning actor and writer, Jane Montgomery Griffiths will guide you through the techniques required to create fully rounded characterisations from scratch, using observation, imagination and improvisation. Perfect for students interested in acting, the session will give you the tools to develop your creative process and at the same time, help you with concentration and losing your inhibitions. Fun, informative and engaging, it will show you a new way of building a character. 
*Our clown workshop will be great for acting attendees to do prior. See below.

COMEDY | INTRODUCTION TO CLOWN
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm

Clowning is an important tool for all performers and actors, that is used to open up their comic imagination. It encourages the performer to become more generous, playful and genuine. In this workshop, you will be guided through the fundamentals of clown play with fun, physical games to aid confidence in performance and teach you how to develop comic characters.


FASHION STYLING AND FLAT-LAY PHOTOGRAPHY
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm

In this workshop, you will learn the art of flat-lay styling in our purpose-built photography studio. This is a great opportunity to learn some of the important skills to help navigate studio equipment, and studio lighting, as well as learn techniques to style and stage fashion products in a professional environment. 

FASHION DESIGN | WHAT WAS OLD, IS NEW AGAIN
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm

Join our Head of Fashion & Sustainability, in this hands-on workshop that will show you how to transform what you thought was old, into a brand-new garment. This workshop will give you an understanding of the sustainable fashion techniques taught in our Fashion & Sustainability course. It will have you reinventing and repurposing a t-shirt for a more fashionable future!

ENTERTAINMENT MANAGEMENT | MARKETING AN ARTIST
Half-day - 1:30m - 4:30pm
Wellington St Campus | 208 Wellington St, Collingwood

This Entertainment Management focused workshop will teach attendees how artists can market their products and how audiences find and connect with them. Participants will receive an introductory overview of key marketing strategies to build an audience and develop creative solutions for releasing creative products. 

MUSIC PRODUCTION | PRODUCING MUSIC WITH ABLETON LIVE
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm
Wellington St Campus | 208 Wellington St, Collingwood

In this workshop, we will uncover the behind-the-scenes process of music production, and show you some of the essential tools a music producer uses in everyday music creation. During the workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of working with Ableton Live, one of the world's leading music production software! 

PHOTOGRAPHY | PORTRAITURE LIGHTING WORKSHOP
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm

Learn how to shoot a perfect portrait, in this interactive, hands-on workshop! You will be taken through the fundamentals of portraiture, camera techniques, lighting, posing and working with models. We will cover multiple lighting techniques both in a professional photography studio and on location using natural light. 

WEDNESDAY 25 JANUARY 2023

ANIMATION | CREATING A 3D CHARACTER USING MAYA
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm
Cromwell St Campus | 67-69 Cromwell St, Collingwood
This workshop will give you an introduction to making and animating a 3D character using Maya. You will be introduced to industry-standard software Maya, while you create a 3D character in the chibi style before creating a short video animation!

DIGITAL & SOCIAL MEDIA | WHAT MAKES GREAT CONTENT
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm
Collins St CBD Campus | Level 7/250 Collins St, Melbourne

In this workshop, we will look at fun, interesting content across social and digital platforms including Tik Tok, Instagram, Twitch and Pinterest. We will unpack audience, objectives, engagement, and action, to see what makes great content!

INTERIOR DESIGN | MAKING A MATERIAL BOARD
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm
Cromwell St Campus | 67-69 Cromwell St, Collingwood

A materials board is one of the most important visual tools used by Interior Designers. In this workshop, you will learn how to select and lay out a convincing materials board to suit the needs of a client. You will work in pairs to create the designer/client relationship, then design a materials board to fit the brief!

MUSIC PERFORMANCE | ENSEMBLE WORKSHOP
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm
Brunswick St Campus | 209 Brunswick St, Fitzroy
This workshop will be an immersive experience where you'll join a band to perform songs on your chosen instrument! You'll get a taste of what it's like to play music with your peers and rehearse in a fully equipped rehearsal studio while gaining vital skills in collaborating with other musicians in a fun and supportive environment! 

SCREEN & MEDIA | THE MYSTERIOUS ART OF SHORT FILM WRITING
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm
Cromwell St Campus | 67-69 Cromwell St, Collingwood

In this workshop, you will take a deep dive into the sorts of stories that work in the short film form. You will watch some great examples and develop your own unique ideas using tools and techniques that allow you to find your voice and build your writing skills.
