These Summer Holidays, we're opening our doors to Victorian High School students currently in years 10, 11 and 12, to participate in a series of practical, hands-on workshops!
Come and experience what it's like to live a day in the life of a Collarts student. We have 10 workshops to choose from across 2 days! See our full list of workshops below!

* Please note, this is only open to High School students currently in years 10, 11 or 12 in 2024, or those that completed year 12 in 2023
** Snacks will be provided for half-day workshops

FASHION MARKETING | FASHION EDITORIAL STYLING WORKSHOP
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm

Discover the art of editorial fashion styling and photography in our immersive workshop. Dive into the world of creating captivating editorial content and images for fashion media. Students will learn the secrets of styling techniques and gain hands-on experience working with a live model and mannequins in a photographic studio. Refine your skills in concept development, lighting, and composition to produce editorial images to communicate compelling stories
FASHION DESIGN | NATURAL DYING
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm

Sustainable Fashion means cherishing the resources we already have. In this workshop we will be reinvigorating our old garments. If you have some garments in your wardrobe that are looking tired, give them a wash & bring them along and learn to work with natural elements – leaves, flowers, seeds, and berries – to create beautifully patterned garments with a whole new life.
PERFORMING ARTS | COMEDIC CHARACTERS

Comedic characters are often the most memorable! Join us to create humorous characters playing engaging theatre games. This workshop introduces students to the process of creating physical characterisations and exaggerated personality traits. Hosted by Head of Comedy, Andrea Powell, students will learn the steps to create enduring comic characters for any medium in a collaborative and safe environment.
2D ANIMATION | STORYTELLING THROUGH COMICS
Full-day - 9:30am - 4:30pm

In this immersive workshop students will learn how to find their own voice in the art of storytelling. Facilitated by Miranda Burton, through a series of exercises, students will use their own experiences and unique point of view of the world to create stories in the graphic narrative format. Students will work on a series of one-page stories with a final showcase of a longer-form piece.
SCREEN & MEDIA | SMARTPHONE FILMMAKING
Full-day - 9:30am - 4:30pm

Learn all the techniques and secrets to shooting good content and cinematic projects with your smartphone! In this hands-on workshop, students will discover what equipment you’ll need to create professional mobile phone films; optimising the quality of your video using your phone settings; understand best lighting techniques as well as tips and tricks with audio quality.
MUSIC PERFORMANCE | ENSEMBLE WORKSHOP

The Music Performance Ensemble workshop is perfect for young musical talents who wish to learn about the fundamentals of collaborative band techniques. Facilitated by our exemplary performance teaching staff, students will learn the specifics about repertoire and explore musical arrangements in our live music studios at our Brunswick St campus

GRAPHIC & DIGITAL DESIGN | DESIGNING FOR THE SENSES

In this workshop, students will explore how design stimulates the senses using your smartphone. Discover how designers create images & objects that remind us of a delicious beverage or dream of an island holiday. Join us on campus to learn how your smartphone can be used to create images and designs that attract the viewer in a unique way.
PHOTOGRAPHY | PERFECT PORTRAITS
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm

In this workshop, students will learn how to shoot that perfect portrait! Facilitated by Vicki Bell, each student will explore the fundamentals of portraiture camera techniques, lighting, posing, and working with models. We will cover multiple lighting techniques both in a professional photography studio and on location using natural light.
AUDIO ENGINEERING | A LIVE DIGITAL PRODUCTION EXTRAVAGANZA

Experience an immersive workshop using four of the best and most used digital live sound consoles in the industry! Students will get hands-on experience on the consoles, learn how to pull sounds and tweak effects, plus so much more! You’ll understand the difference between them, learn why people use various consoles for different effects and get a taste of what it’s like to be an Audio student at Collarts!
MUSIC PRODUCTION | SOUND DESIGN & SYNTHESIS IN ABLETON
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm
Wellington St Campus | 208 Wellington St, Collingwood
Students will participate in a practical hands-on workshop moving through the fundamentals of synthesis and sound design within the industry standard Ableton Live software. The workshop will focus on three key synthesis techniques: 1/ Analog (Subtractive). 2/Digital (Wavetable) and 3/Granular (Granulator). Bring your headphones and be immersed in the world of soothing synth sounds!
