COLLARTS | WINTER Workshop Series
These Winter Holidays, we're opening our doors to Victorian High School students currently in years 10, 11 and 12, to participate in a series of practical, hands-on workshops!
Come and experience what it's like to live a day in the life of a Collarts student. We have 12 workshops to choose from across 2 days! See our full list of workshops below!

* Please note, this is only open to High School students currently in years 10, 11 or 12 in 2025
** Lunch will be provided for full-day workshops and snacks will be provided for half-day workshops
*** Please note, some workshops require a minimum number of attendees to run successfully. We will notify you 5 days in advance if this workshop will not proceed.

FASHION MARKETING | TREND FORECASTING FOR A FASHION BRAND
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm

In this Fashion Marketing workshop, students will learn how to visually communicate a seasonal trend for a fashion brand. Students will explore international trend forecasting tools including WGSN to develop their theme for a seasonal fashion collection and use Canva to create a themed visual mood board.
FASHION DESIGN | EMBELLISH YOUR WARDROBE
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm

Transform one of your own garments or accessories through a range of embellishment techniques such as embroidery and beading. With a selection of embellishments provided, students will refresh and personalise an item from their wardrobe to extend the life span and renew their own connection with this garment.
INTERIOR DESIGN | INTERIOR TRENDS

Learn the skills professional Interior Designers use every day in this hands-on experience. In this interactive workshop you will learn about current Interior Design trends and bring them to life through the creation of a mood & materials board.
PERFORMING ARTS |PLAY, SPEAK, PERFORM: AN ACTING TASTER WORKSHOP
Half-day - 1:30pm - 4:30pm

Curious about what it’s like to study acting at Collarts? In this highly interactive workshop, we’ll dive into playful ensemble warm-ups, explore the power and range of your voice, and get a feel for improv with some fun games. You’ll also work with short monologues to discover how to connect text with truth — all in a welcoming, supportive environment that celebrates creativity, courage, and collaboration. No experience necessary — just bring yourself, your curiosity and your voice!
PHOTOGRAPHY | SHAPING LIGHT: NATURAL LIGHT PORTRAITS

In this hands-on workshop, students will focus on exploring natural light portraiture in local environments and experiment with techniques to shape light, create mood, texture, and depth helping to tell a compelling visual story. Students will also learn effective communication techniques by directing models and posing to achieve engaging and natural shots.
2D ANIMATION | CARTOON PORTRAITS
Half-day - 9:30am - 12:30pm

In this technical animation workshop, students will begin by exploring facial proportions and basic construction. From here, they will delve into techniques for simplifying and exaggerating facial features to enhance expressiveness and bring personality to characters.
SCREEN & MEDIA | WRITE A SCREENPLAY IN HALF A DAY

Where do stories come from? What are the qualities that all great stories possess? Join Screen & Media Program Leader, Sean Cousins and explore some of the story-building blocks that can help you communicate your ideas and bring your stories to life.
MUSIC PERFORMANCE | ENSEMBLE WORKSHOP

The Music Performance Ensemble workshop is perfect for young musical talents who wish to learn about the fundamentals of collaborative band techniques. Facilitated by our ARIA award winning performance teaching staff, students will learn the specifics about repertoire and explore musical arrangements in our state-of-the-art live music studios at our Brunswick St campus.

MUSIC PRODUCTION | INTRODUCTION TO ABLETON

This workshop will engage students in the foundational tools needed within a specific digital audio workstation (Ableton). Attendees will learn how to manage the interface, compose with MIDI and use audio sampling features to compose and produce their own original works.
AUDIO ENGINEERING | FOLEY & SOUND EFFECTS WORKSHOP

Discover how to make scenes pop through sound in this immersive, hands-on session. Learn to craft Foley using everyday objects from footsteps to impacts and sync them perfectly to visuals. You’ll walk away with practical tools, editing tricks, and a new appreciation for the art of storytelling through sound.
GRAPHIC & DIGITAL DESIGN | CREATE A BESPOKE TYPEFACE DIGITAL & OFFSCREEN

Join Cathy Sison, a professional calligrapher and lover of typography, to design your own typeface from scratch. Students will explore the art of type design through both analogue and digital processes. Beginning with sketching, experimenting, and playing with letterforms using unconventional tools and materials — before transitioning into the digital realm to refine and vectorise your custom type to bring your characters to life.

Join Dr. Cameron Rose, Program Leader for Digital & Social Media for this unique workshop. Students will learn about destination marketing for tourism and how psychographics can be used to target your audience.
