Collegiate Shag College

Build on the skills you’ve learned with previous swing dance experience, and improve your Collegiate Shag. This workshop offers a more intensive learning experience than Collegiate Shag classes currently available, to take your shag dancing to the next level. It's aimed at giving you the tools to dance Collegiate Shag more comfortably and confidently. Expand your repertoire and enjoy shag dancing more.

Best for:

- swing dancers who've learned the basics of Collegiate Shag but haven't had much chance to practice or develop their Shag skills.

- dancers keen to brush up on their Collegiate Shag to get the most out of attending the upcoming Fast Foot Jam weekender in Sydney in June.

Pre-requisites:

- knowledge of the fundamental Collegiate Shag rhythm footwork (double rhythm: slow, slow, quick, quick) and standard closed basic. We won't be teaching the basics from scratch.

- familiarity with partnered swing dancing and the concept of lead & follow connection.

FAQS

Q: I’m keen, but I’m a Shag beginner and don’t really know the basic footwork/moves. What should I do?

A: To maximise our time in the workshop, we won’t be teaching the basic footwork rhythm. Try taking a few lessons at Swing Patrol Club Maxie’s to learn the basic rhythms that you can practice before the workshop. Or reach out to our Shag teachers directly (or via info@swingpatrol.com.au) and organise a private lesson or two, either individually or in a small group.

*Please arrive a few minutes before the advertised start time, to check in and be ready to dance at the start of the session.*

We will take a few 5-10min rest/drink/snack breaks throughout the workshop, but no "lunch break". Please BYO water bottle and snacks.

TEACHERS: JC and Ash are regular Collegiate Shag instructors at Swing Patrol Club Maxie's. Both are members of the Shag performance troupe, Double Rhythm Riot. Their teaching style is joyful, fun and full of puns, combined with an emphasis on the solid technique that helps dancers achieve relaxed, enjoyable social Shag dancing.
