Event description

Discover the latest breakthroughs in traffic safety technology for both rail and road. Learn how cutting-edge science and technology can enhance personal safety, reduce accident costs, and minimize trauma for operators, emergency services, and the public. Hear from our panellists how their research helps us all.

We are pleased to announce our panellists are:

 - Professor Anjum Naweed (Appleton Institute, CQU) whose topic is: Complex decision-making, knowledge representation and human factors in rail transport safety.

- Dr Jamie Mackenzie (Centre for Automotive Safety Research, UoA) whose topic is: Collecting naturalistic data on the distance drivers provide when passing cyclists on the road.

Mr Giulio Ponte (Centre for Automotive Safety Research, UoAwhose topic is: Event Data Recorders – the ‘black boxes’ in cars that store vehicle data in the event of a crash.

Please join us on Friday 27th Sept at the Adelaide Irish Club (13-15 Carrington St, Adelaide). The event kicks off at 6:00 pm and will finish by approximately 7:30 pm. Doors will open at 5:30 pm. All drinks are to be purchased at the bar but guests are welcome to bring their own snacks/food. Attendance is free, but please register so we can advise the venue and set up the seating. We recommend arriving early to secure your preferred seating.

New to SciPub? Wondering what we are about?
The principal goal of SciPubAdelaide is to make science engaging and accessible to the public. Each panel consists of three experts who deliver 10-15 minute presentations on their area and then open up to questions from the audience via a moderator. Panellists are selected primarily on their ability to effectively communicate science in an engaging and non-technical manner. SciPubAdelaide is held in a pub so that scientists, aspiring scientists, and non-scientists can learn, discuss and think critically about hot topics in science.
