Alternative Housing Models: Leveraging a partnership model to provide key-worker housing

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Jobs going begging because people can’t find secure, affordable rentals.

Mortgage and rental stress for people on incomes which, just a few years ago, would have been considered pretty reasonable.

Increasingly, we are getting a clearer picture about the impact of housing affordability on business, the economy and the workforce.

But what can we do about it?

Exciting new models are emerging which provide social and affordable housing as a viable investment, rather than a cost to the public purse.

These are both a solution to a growing community crisis and an opportunity for investment which will have deep and positive impact in Tasmania.

Colony 47 and TCCI are delighted to invite you to a business breakfast where these ideas are explored.

Our guest speakers will be:

Peter Johnston, Managing Director, B.Ec F Finsia, CPA, Lighthouse Infrastructure

Peter joined Lighthouse in 2016 as a Managing Director, where he is responsible for the investment process and management of the business. Peter also has responsibility for portfolio management and growth initiatives and is a member of Lighthouse’s Investment Committee. Peter has over 25 years’ experience in infrastructure investment and management across a variety of roles and has completed extensive investments and transactions in Australia, Europe and North America. Prior to joining Lighthouse, Peter was a member of the leadership team at Hastings Funds Management with specific responsibility for growth of the business. Over five years, Peter oversaw considerable expansion in the Hastings business and was also involved in new investments in the energy, transport and water sectors in Europe and Australia. Prior to this Peter worked at Macquarie Group for over eight years across a number of roles in the infrastructure sector including Macquarie Infrastructure Group. Prior to Macquarie, Peter was the portfolio manager for what is now IFM Investors’ Australian Infrastructure Fund, adding significant investments in the transportation, telecommunications, water and utility sectors. Earlier in his career, Peter held senior roles at KPMG Corporate Finance and Multinet Gas.

Scott Langford, Group Chief Executive Officer, MBA, P.GradDip Prop. Dev., FIML, FAICD, MRICS, SGCH

Scott is a Chartered Surveyor with a specialisation in housing management and development, holds an MBA, and post grad in property development and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He leads a team of over 200 staff at SGCH who provide a place to call home for more than 11,500 residents in 7000 homes. Since joining SGCH in 2016, Scott and his team have secured a development pipeline of 1,000 new social and affordable homes in Sydney, underpinned by $450 million in financing commitments. Major transactions have included the Social and Affordable Housing Fund Phase 1 and Phase 2, and the Social Housing Management Transfer program. Prior to joining SGCH Scott held senior roles in community housing and the private sector in property development. He has served on numerous industry Boards and advisory groups including as Chair of the International Housing Partnership and PowerHousing Australia. He is currently a member of the NSW Community Housing Industry Council and a Director of CHIA NSW.

Together, they leveraged a partnership model to provide key-worker housing in Western Sydney. They'll discuss what the prospects are here in Tasmania.

Colony 47 will demonstrate what we can do to bring together capital and capability to put the keys to homes into the hands of Tasmanians who desperately need them.

Please join us for the conversation.
