An awareness of, and ability to forage for wild edibles and medicinals is an incredible doorway into becoming more at home in nature. Indeed it is a key survival skill. And it awakens our personal ancestral connections with foraging wild, truly local and seasonal food, remedies & materials. It connects us with our local ecology, the weather and season and perhaps childhood memories. Overtime it deepens our relationship with country, the intricacy and variability of the seasons, a wilder more instinctual diet and living and ancestral Aboriginal custodians.

This event will open this doorway for participants to come home to nature through a safe ethical hands-on wild foraging and deep nature connection experience PLUS a shared afternoon tea featuring wild ingredients. You will descend down into a gorge to discover edible and otherwise-useful native and exotic plants along a wild section of the Warriparri/ Sturt River floodplain in Kaurna country in the Adelaide hills.

(Exact location TBA but PLEASE NOTE: A reasonable level of fitness and dexterity is required to negotiate steep narrow and uneven paths down into and out of the gorge. There are no public toilets on site for this 3 hour event)

Participants will be invited to drop into deeper connection with nature and self through acknowledgement of country, and being guided into body-based rewilding and sensory awareness practices not taught elsewhere in South Australia.

From an ancestral perspective, foraging for wild food, medicines & more is part of the vast majority of our evolutionary history as Homo Sapiens, and an instinctual survival mechanism and birthrite. And it remains a daily activity in many earth - connected cultures today.

Wild plants require no irrigation or fertilisation, but many are of culinary or medicinal value, are highly aromatic and flavoursome, nutrient dense and low in calories, full of antioxidants, and generally better for you than their pampered equivalents.

Foraging has recently experienced a surge in popularity. But how can we do it in a way which is safe and custodial rather than exploitative, that promotes a deeper relationship with nature for the good of all?

Your Rewilding Mentor & guide is Tiffany Schultz from Conscious Lifestyles. The deep nature connection practices draw from her embodied experience and teachings in the Stalking Wolf lineage passed on by Kate Ryde and Sam Robertson. And mentorship by Jon Young (USA), Claire Dunn (Author of My Year without Matches & Rewilding the Urban Soul), Andrew Turbill and others. The foraging is informed by Tiffany's studies of Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Permaculture, native foods, and edible and medicinal plants, her personal foraging practice and forays with other guides. Tiffany has been holding wild foraging experiences since 2011 through Conscious Lifestyles and is also holding COME HOME TO FORAGING II on October 7 1-4pm 2023, and COME HOME to SHELTER: Create and Sleep in a Primitive Survival Shelter, October 14-15 at the Nature Festival.
