Description

Life can be beautiful, messy, joyful, heartbreaking and overwhelming — often all in the same week.

Coming Home is a weekly meditation gathering designed to help you reconnect with yourself amidst the busyness of everyday life. Drawing on the Tibetan Buddhist mind training tradition known as Lojong, these classes combine timeless wisdom with a practical, down-to-earth approach that speaks to the realities of modern life.

Together we explore meditation, reflection, compassion and awareness through practices that help cultivate calm, clarity, resilience and an open heart. While rooted in Buddhist philosophy, the focus is always on direct experience and practical application. No previous meditation experience is required.

Each weekly class includes:

• Guided meditation
• Practical Tibetan Buddhist philosophy
• Reflection and discussion
• Mindfulness and compassion practices
• A welcoming and supportive community

This is not about escaping life or becoming someone different. It is about learning how to meet life more fully — with greater presence, understanding and kindness.

Monthly Medicine Buddha & Dedication Evening

On the final Thursday of each month, our regular class becomes a special Medicine Buddha practice and dedication evening.

Together we gather the names of loved ones, community members, and anyone facing illness, grief, uncertainty or obstacles. Through meditation, chanting and dedication, we offer our collective practice for their wellbeing and the removal of difficulties.

This simple tradition reflects a core principle of Tibetan Buddhism: that our practice is not only for ourselves, but also for the benefit of others.

Whether you are completely new to meditation or have an established practice, you are warmly invited to join us.

A place to pause.

A place to breathe.

A place to reconnect.

A place to come home.

Co-Founder & former Buddhist Monk, Tamkey

    ## Tamkey Originally from the Amdo region of Tibet, Tamkey has devoted more than three decades to the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism. At the age of 19, he made the extraordinary journey on foot across the Himalayas to Dharamsala, India, to continue his studies near His Holiness the Dalai Lama. There, he undertook advanced training in Buddhist philosophy and tantra, becoming a scholar at Kirti Monastery. During his monastic years, Tamkey taught Buddhist history, philosophy and meditation to younger monks, served as editor of the monastery's publications, and published several books on Buddhist philosophy and practice. More recently, he has authored three books on Lojong (Mind Training) practice in the Tibetan language. Alongside his Buddhist studies, Tamkey also trained in Tibetan Traditional Medicine at Chagpori Institute and is qualified in traditional Tibetan massage. In 2012, Tamkey made the decision to leave monastic life and become a lay practitioner. Having lived and practiced extensively within both Tibetan and Western cultures, he brings a rare combination of traditional knowledge, lived experience and practical understanding to his teaching. Known for his warmth, humour and down-to-earth approach, Tamkey has a gift for making profound Buddhist teachings accessible and relevant to everyday life. His teaching style is free from jargon and unnecessary complexity, helping students integrate ancient wisdom into modern life in ways that cultivate greater awareness, compassion, purpose and inner contentment.

  • Co-Founder and Teacher, Claire Spencer

    Co-Founder and Teacher, Claire Spencer

Claire Spencer is the co-founder of Lojong Meditation and has practised Tibetan Buddhism for more than 25 years. Her journey has included extensive study, meditation retreats, multiple pilgrimages to Dharamsala, India, and completion of the two-year Foundation of Buddhist Thought program taught by Geshe Tashi Tsering, former Abbot of Sera Mey Monastery. Drawing on both traditional Buddhist teachings and the realities of modern life, Claire is passionate about making meditation and mind training accessible, practical and relevant for everyday people. Her teaching style is warm, grounded and conversational, blending ancient wisdom with a distinctly Western perspective. Since being diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in 2024, these practices have become more than philosophy. They have become a daily companion through uncertainty, grief, gratitude and healing. This lived experience informs Claire's approach to teaching, helping others discover practical tools for navigating life's challenges with greater awareness, compassion and resilience. Her aspiration is simple: to help people cultivate calm minds, open hearts and a deeper sense of connection to themselves and others.
