Feminine ways of knowing - cultivating versus conquering health
Description
This is the fourth of a monthly event series exploring women's health with diverse practitioners - science, somatic, holistic.
Coming home to meet the mix within.
An evening weaving together our nervous systems, our heritage, and the embodied ways we make meaning of health and wellbeing.
We are each a mix - heritage, culture, ethnicity, the environment we grew up in, the lineage carried in our bodies before we had words for it. This mix shapes how our nervous systems learned to move through the world: what we reach for, grasp for, push toward. So much of how we function lives in that outward pulse, expanding out, action oriented and always doing.
This evening is an invitation to move the other way. To exhale. To release. And come home to our body.
Guided by practitioner Cathy Livermore of Mauri Tau, drawing on 20 years across somatic practice, performing arts and Rongoā Māori, we’ll explore meeting the gritty, difficult parts of ourselves directly. This is not to fix or push past them, but to be with them long enough that they stop quietly running the show.
A guided somatic practice will bring us back into the body, building a take home self-practice for your nervous system, long after the evening ends.
We close with a simple question: within the home of your own skin, what does your home need?
