OPT-IN SESSIONS

Business Sustainability: Creating Social and Environmental Impact
Business thinking and practice is fast evolving--thinking beyond just profit, to really addressing the role of business in society today. This session explores the topic through a supply chain lens – the pandemic has taught us all how fragile supply chains are, and just how important they are to our daily lives! They’re even more important when we think about the role of businesses in creating a more sustainable future – both socially and environmentally.
Presenter: Prof Diane Mollenkopf

Doing Business in Bicultural NZ
This session asks attendees to consider how their multiple, varied and perhaps conflicting cultural perspectives are part of, similar to, and different from, those of mana whenua, Māori, tangata whenua, Aotearoa New Zealand, and international cultures. It takes a brief look at the role Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi has today and the relevance of that role for possible subject majors, as well as future possibilities for business and the economy.
Presenter: Matthew Scobie

Inflation
Seemingly banished for the last 30 years, inflation is now making a comeback all around the world. But why do we care about inflation? What causes inflation? Central banks are given the job of controlling inflation. How do they do this and have they messed it up this time around? Can we escape from the latest bout of inflation without an economic downturn?
Presenter: Stephen Hickson

Digital Transformation: Technology trends in companies and their (potential) impact on education
Companies are going through a 'second wave' of digital transformation, driven by the exponential growth in new technologies like blockchain, AI, automation and robotics. The first wave of digital transformation looked at how companies can invest in these technologies in order to remain competitive and thwart disruption. The second wave, however, is focused on how to capitalize on these technology investments. Many 'digital transformations' fail because inadequate investment was made in the people (employees), processes and organisational structure changes that needed to occur. People, in particular, plays a critical role in the success of digital transformation. This presentation looks at the 'people' component of digital transformation and the key part that education plays therein.
Presenter: Hamish Duff
