Common Threads: Examining the Stories of Irish and Palestinian Women in their Countries’ Resistance Struggles

Dr Manal Shqair is an activist and scholar from Palestine. Her research focuses on Palestinian women's everyday resistance to Zionist settler-colonial dispossession.

Dr Niamh Coffey completed her PhD at the University of Strathclyde in 2024. Her research focused on Irish Republican women in Britain and transnational networks during the Irish Revolutionary period, 1916-1923.

This talk is about the stories of key Irish women active in Britain in the Irish revolutionary period, 1916-1923 and the stories of Palestinian women actively resisting Zionist settler-colonial dispossession.

The aim of the talk is to highlight the essential role played by women in both the Irish and Palestinian struggles and to understand their contributions and influence in both contexts.

By learning about and comparing the resistance strategies, methods and activities employed by women in Ireland and Palestine, we can identify parallels, build knowledge and exchange ideas.
