Communal Embroidery Quilt for Diwali
Event description
Join artist Sahana Rahman for a hands-on Embroidery Workshop inspired by the Nokshi Kantha tradition of Bengal. Over two sessions (October 10 or October 11), participants will stitch sun motifs—drawn from traditional kantha designs—symbolising the life force at the heart of community and celebration.
Each person will embroider their own square, which will be joined together into a larger quilt. The finished artwork will be displayed at New Lynn Library for Diwali, celebrating creativity, connection, and cultural heritage.
No prior embroidery experience is needed—all materials and guidance will be provided. You’re welcome to choose whichever day suits you best.
