Communicating with Words and Pictures - June 2025
Event description
We all know that people prefer colour and movement in their communications - but visuals have other benefits too!
This is a sketchnoting course that focuses on the application of these visual skills for a range of organisational communication. The goal of this course is to give you the basic components and some ideas on how you might apply them in your workplace to improve clarity and engagement.
In this course we will:
- Discuss the power of word/picture combinations for communication
- Explore the key principles and elements of sketchnoting
- Explore a range of applications within your organisation - from capture to planned communication.
If you would like to improve the impact and accessibility of your organisational communication, come along and start adding picture to your words today!
This course is designed for anyone who has a requirement to produce "written" communication to support other staff and clients within your organisation. This could be any range of activities from taking notes in meetings, production instructions for clients, capturing internal processes through to capturing client needs and input in group consultation sessions.
Benefits of including Visuals
- Combining words and pictures improves memory retention - helping you create documents and messages that stick.
- Pictures can help provide context to your content - helping people understand your message in a deeper way.
- Combining words and pictures in consultation session capture helps surface thoughts, ideas and issues in an engaging way.
- It can change the way you think and approach your messaging - including ability to simplify content.
In this course you will learn the fundamental skills to start using this important method to improve communication within and without your organisation.
FAQs
Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Yes, since this is designed for workplace communication, all participants must be 18 or over. You are not required to be employed.
Can I contact the organiser with any questions?
Sure, click the Contact Host to ask any questions you might have.
What do I need to bring?
All materials will be provided, but you can bring a notebook and any pens you would prefer to use if you would like.
What if I can't draw?
This is not an art class, remember it is not about being able to 'draw'. You will learn a range of techniques that may not even require you to draw icons to enhance content. If you can draw, that's great but not essential.
Will we be breaking for lunch?
Yes, we will have about a 30 minute break for lunch. You can bring something along (there is a kitchenette available) or you can pop over to the shopping centre where there are quite a few food options.
