Anita Chitaya seems unstoppable: her tireless work is transforming farming practices in her village in Malawi and challenging gender inequality. But in her battle against drought and extreme weather events, she takes on her greatest challenge yet — persuading Americans that climate change is real.

Travelling from rural farms to urban food co-operatives across the US, she navigates deep national divisions while urging those in positions of privilege to embrace change with the urgency the climate crisis demands.

The panel includes Dr Blessings Kachale a Malawian climate justice and international development expert and part of the Scotland Malawi Partnership and the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund. Dr Kachale has delivered programmes in Malawi amongst many other countries.

Lisa Houston has worked extensively with refugee and migrant-led community groups in Thailand. She also lived for 10 years on a community farm, practising and teaching food growing, seed-saving and earthen building. She has been involved with EAC since returning to Edinburgh in 2019 and also works with Granton Community Gardeners.

From December to February we are hosting The Melting Pot Community Cinema. We are partnering with Take One Action Film Festival to bring you documentary film for social impact.

Each film will explore a crucial social issue. Our screenings will be a jumping-off point for discussion, collaboration, and action inspired by these films.

Arrive at The Melting Pot from 6pm — Popcorn, biscuits, tea and coffee will be available.
