Join an online session to have your say on a community climate action plan made by local Disabled people. The event will also be a chance to connect with other Disabled people.

Please note that this event is for Disabled people who live or work in Bristol.

About the plan

From buses to roads, and from jobs to energy, big changes are coming to Bristol as the city takes action on climate change. These changes could make things better for Disabled people but if they are planned in the wrong way they could make things more difficult. In 2021 the ideas of over 200 local Disabled people were turned into a community climate action plan for Bristol’s community of Disabled people. It showed how local action on climate change could make things better for Disabled people.

Over the last year a group of nine Disabled people from across Bristol have been updating the plan and making it even better. We now want to share this draft plan with the wider community to hear your ideas and make sure that we haven’t missed anything important.

Time to connect

We believe that building community around climate change is important for Disabled people. So the first part of the event will be a chance to share stories and experiences of nature. The event will be closed by a poetry reading by Florence Grieve.

If you only want to hear about and give feedback on the plan you can join from 18:20 to 19:05.

Jargon buster

Access needs - What a Disabled person needs so that they can take part fully in an activity.

Accessible - When a Disabled person can use or take part in something because their needs have been met.

Climate change - A long term change in how hot the world is and the weather conditions. It is caused by humans and our use of dirty fuels like oil and gas. The heat means that lots more dangerous weather is happening. For example, in Bristol it means there will be more floods, extreme heat and more chaotic weather.

Community climate action plan - This is when a community plans what to do about climate change. The aim is to make the community better for the people in that community by action that also benefits the planet and nature.
