Chairing a Meeting 101 - Wednesday, 17 May 2023, 5:30-6:30pm

The chairperson is key to ensuring an effective and efficient meeting. This is designed for any role responsible for facilitating a meeting, whether in the workplace, community, or board room. In this one-hour workshop learn tips and tricks for running a successful meeting, such as:

Role and responsibilities of a chairing a meeting
Types of meetings and documents
How to ensure all members of the meeting are engaged in an equitable way (both reserved and dominant attendees)
Leading the decision-making process
Focusing the conversation (if it gets off-track)
Resolving conflict and differing opinions
Overcoming conscious and unconscious bias

Good Governance - Wednesday, 17 May 2023, 7-8:30pm

Good Governance is essential for organisations to develop strategy and engage in long term thinking. But what does governance really involve, and what are the key things to learn to do it even better?

Whether you have been working in an organisation which focusses on purpose for a long time or have just started the journey, this session is designed for those bringing benefit to the community around them. This may be through registered charities, residents' groups, member-based clubs, committees or incorporated societies, a social enterprise or a charitable trust. This face-to-face workshop is for both new and experienced board members. We will encourage board members as community leaders and provide the skills, knowledge and confidence to govern well. The session will be interactive and provide you with a free tool kit to grow, develop and strengthen governance essentials as well as give an overview on key law changes that may impact your organisation.

Volunteering 101 - Wednesday, 24 May 2023, 5:30-7pm

Volunteers are an essential part of the success of many community organisations. This session is designed for board members, managers or member-based groups to provide organisations some key ideas and strategies for building their volunteering toolkit. Participants will hear about how to successfully find and retain volunteers. The session will consider thought leadership around volunteering policy, volunteer succession planning, and how to make the volunteer journey a rewarding experience for all.

Facilitated by Glenda Martin from Volunteering Canterbury. Glenda has worked in the volunteering leadership sector for many years and is currently the manager of Volunteering Canterbury.
