    THANK YOU!

Join us for the launch of Fremantle’s first Community Land Trust (CLT) with Land in Common.

A home is so much more than a roof over our heads. A safe, stable, sustainable home is key to a good life and fundamental to our wellbeing.Despite significant investment, housing affordability remains an ongoing issue. The impact is felt across our community, including here in Fremantle, were access to housing is becoming increasingly unaffordable for many households.

My hot take on “15-minute-cities” is if you can get to the coffee shop within fifteen minutes, but the barista who makes your drink can’t afford to live closer than a half-hour away, then you live in a theme park.

We are thrilled to introduce a fresh solution to the housing affordability crisis in our City.

Originating in the United States in the 1960s, CLTs are a transformative affordable housing model that removes homes from the property market and ties their value to the median local income in perpetuity. Unlike conventional housing, CLTs treat homes as a human right, not an investment, with land held for the benefit of the community.

Through long-term ground leases, CLTs enable households to own their homes while the land remains community-owned.

CLTs have already transformed housing around the world, and now Fremantle is joining this global movement.

Fremantle architects Tobias Busch (spaceagency), and Geoffrey London will introduce the CLT model and look at how - and where - it could work in Fremantle.

Kate MacTiernan will share her experiences co-founding the first CLT in London, from engaging with the community to moving the first residents into their new homes.

Sean Kelly, Director of the Australasian Housing Institute, brings a wealth of knowledge in adapting the CLT model to our legislative and financial landscape.

Whether you are seeking affordable housing in Fremantle, want to support community-led projects, or are simply curious about the CLT model, this is your chance to learn more, get involved, and help reshape Fremantle’s housing future.
