    Community Leadership in Emergencies

    Event description

Have you been thinking about the power of community? Wondering how your networks handle emergencies? Maybe you’re keen to meet more of your neighbours and build stronger connections?

Come along to this free event for some peer-to-peer learning with fellow Nillumbik residents to explore what community preparedness means for you and your networks. If you are part of a community organisation, this will be a great opportunity for you to explore how your group can help in emergencies.

We are seeing more extreme weather, financial hardship and social vulnerability all around us, which makes it all the more important to build strong communities that can look after and advocate for each other.

The event will include an informal panel discussion with local community connectors Malcolm, Diana and Lisal who will share some of their experiences of responding and recovering from the Black Saturday fires in 2009, followed by some time to connect and discuss topics important to you.

    Dinner will be provided!
Children's activities (colouring in sheets, word games) will be available.

Public Transport: Hurstbridge Hub is a short walk from the Hurstbridge train station. You can also get the bus line 343 to stop Hurstbridge Station/Heidelberg-Kinglake Rd.

*The event photo features some of the letterboxes created as part of the Letterbox Project in Strathewen, created by and for community affected by the Black Saturday fire.

For more information and any questions, contact the Communities First team at emergency.management@nillumbik.vic.gov.au or call 9433 3311.

This event is part of the Disaster Resilient Nillumbik project, with funding provided by the Australian Government in partnership with the States and Territories under the National Partnership Agreement for Disaster Risk Reduction.
