Community Planting Day - North Haven

Play your part for World Environment Day 2023!

Join this volunteer led community planting day to help protect and restore our local sand dune environment.

Get up close to our local environment, learn more about this special place and help to protecting our coastal dunes.

This planting event is hosted by Friends of North Haven Sand Dunes and facilitated by Trees for Life staff as part of the Coastal Sand Dune Rehabilitation Project: a volunteer led project of Semaphore Largs Dunes Group, Taperoo Dunes, Friends of North Haven Sand Dunes and Port Adelaide Residents Environment Protection Group (PAREPG). This project is supported by Green Adelaide and the City of Port Adelaide Enfield.

Meeting spot: Planting will take in the sand dunes at North Haven beach. Meet on the lawn at the rear of the North Haven Surf Life Saving Club. A reminder that all volunteers will need to sign in on arrival and sign out when leaving.

What to bring:

• BYO drink bottle, gardening gloves, sun hat, sunscreen and safety glasses (some spares available on the day).
• Please dress appropriately for the weather.
• Attendees are asked to wear long pants, enclosed shoes and long sleaves.
  
• The local dunes groups will provide a few nibbles at the morning tea break. You may wish to bring additional snacks.
• Hot drinks and cakes available to purchase in the North Haven Surf Life Saving Club.

Timing: 

• Please join in anytime between 9am – 1pm.
• There will be a short morning tea break at 11am.
• Arrive at 9am for the initial welcome and briefing. If you arrive later, please make sure to sign in and receive a quick run-down on planting techniques and safety pointers before getting started.

Children: This event is aimed at adults, but children are welcome to attend (we suggest 12 and over). As we will be working in a sensitive environment these events are less suitable for
younger kids. If you are bringing children along please book them a ticket, and remember that all children must be accompanied by a guardian and appropriately supervised at all times.

About the Coastal Sand Dune Rehabilitation Project

The Coastal Sand Dune Rehabilitation Project is an ongoing project contributing to the maintenance, restoration, and enhancement of the coastal dune system and Biodiversity Park on LeFevre Peninsula. The aim of the project is to increase biodiversity through re-vegetation, weed and pest control, and to create a coastal and coast to river biodiversity link over time.

This project is funded by Green Adelaide and the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. The project received funding from the Green Adelaide Grassroots Grants program in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

This is a volunteer led initiative of the Semaphore Largs Dunes Group, Taperoo Dunes Group, Friends of North Haven Sand Dunes, Port Adelaide Resident’s Environment Protection Group (PAREPG).

Port Environment Centre is pleased to be supporting this local, volunteer driven project.

Attendee information may be used for follow up evaluation, in order to assess the longer term impacts of our events. Follow up contact may be made (in the form of a survey) but participation in any evaluation is optional.
