Drive the recovery of Harcourt and District: Community Recovery Association Proposal Meeting
Description
6-7: Community BBQ with Lions and opportunity to talk to other groups (HPA, Coucil)
7-8: Meeting to discuss proposal for an independent local recovery association
There are more than 30 organisations and agencies making decisions about the Harcourt and District on our behalf. Let's tell them what we want.
Inspired by the Mallacoota and Strathewen fire response, members of the local community have proposed a new community association to enable us to lead and drive our own recovery.
The Harcourt Progress Association has carried an extraordinary load since January, but agree with community (as expressed at the community meeting on 20th April) that the recovery work should now sit with a new, purpose-built organisation – one that exists solely to do this job for the next three to four years.
This new association will proactively and deeply listen to community, act as a conduit to agencies, and the Shire, collaborate with existing groups, attract new funding to our area, support active community participation, and drive community leadership.
This is an inclusive group--everyone is welcome. This is for people who were directly affected by the fires as well as people who care about the recovery, resilience, and future of our community. We welcome people directly in Harcourt and District and those outside who care about the recovery.
We want diverse representation across the community, and we would actively appreciate as much youth involvement as we can get. Please spread the word.
A diverse community ‘Thinking Group’, with the guidance of an experienced disaster recovery mentor, has been working on this idea and has come up with a proposal for the Harcourt & District Community Recovery Association.
On Monday 8 June, we are bringing a proposal to the community for endorsement.
For this to succeed, we need you, AND your friends and neighbours to come along, support the work and get involved.
For those who can't make it in person, livestream and recording details will be available and emailed out on the night.
