Introduction to Complex Trauma - a Workshop for Service Providers
Event description
Adverse childhood experiences, or ACEs, are potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood (0-17 years). It may include experiencing violence, abuse, or neglect; witnessing violence in the home or community or having a family member attempt or die by suicide. This acknowledges the level of trauma that many in our community may be living with now or may have experienced growing up.
The workshop is for child, family and youth workers such as case workers, disability and family support workers.
This workshop will provide an introduction to the concept of complex trauma and ways that people may learn to cope. It will outline some key ideas when working with children, young people and parents and describe ways to engage that are non-judgemental, supportive and trauma informed.
The workshop faciltator is Biljana Milosevic - Director, Jannawi Family Centre.
Biljana is a bi-cultural Social Worker with over 21 years of experience working directly with children and families at significant risk, experiencing violence, abuse (including sexual abuse) and neglect. Jannawi means ‘with me, with you’ in Dharug and describes the philosophy of walking alongside families to create meaningful and lasting change. Jannawi, located in Wiley Park, offers therapeutic interventions to adults and children, in addition to complex case management, parent education, risk assessment, child development interventions, home visiting and practical support.
