    Computational Approaches to Unravel the Molecular Mechanisms in Human Disorders

    Genetic, proteomic, and epigenetic mechanisms can induce susceptibility to human disorders. Despite advances in genomic, epigenomic, and proteomic approaches, mechanisms and molecular factors conferring risk to these diseases/disorders remain unresolved, and additional studies are still needed. Among the human diseases/disorders where these mechanisms play a key role include cancer, metabolic syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and post-traumatic stress disorder. I will discuss how we can unravel these genetic and epigenetic mechanisms using bioinformatics, computational biology, and statistical approaches.

    About the Speaker

    Dr. Kumaraswamy Naidu Chitrala is currently an assistant professor of biotechnology in the Department of Engineering Technology at the University of Houston. He was working as an assistant professor and head for the Bioinformatics Core at Fels Cancer Institute for Personalized Medicine, Temple University before joining UH. Kumar received his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from Sri Venkateswara University in 2015. His research mainly focused on Bioinformatics & Computational Biology, Statistical Genetics, Epidemiology, Epigenetics, Cancer Biology, Health Disparities, Neurological Disorders, and Aging. He has published over 56 original research articles, many of which were published in high-impact journals such as Nature, Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, Cell, EMBO Journal, Cancer Research, Genome Biology, Epigenetics, Clinical Epigenetics, Molecular Psychiatry, Scientific Reports, Blood. In addition, he served as a reviewer at the NIH, NSF study sections and editorial member for several high-impact journals. He recently received a pilot grant from HEALTH-RCMI.
