Con Ball 2025: Velvet Moon
Event description
The Sydney Conservatorium Students’ Association is keen to present its annual gala, celebrating 110 years of the Sydney Conservatorium:
🌙 Con Ball 2025: Velvet Moon 🌙
Ever since it birthed the Australian Jazz Renaissance over 50 years ago with the introduction of the country's first tertiary degree in jazz studies, Sydney Con has been the hub of all kinds of jazz music in the Harbour City.
Instigated by the legendary Don Burrows, it was under the Director, Rex Hobcroft, and the Foundation Head of Jazz Studies, Howie Smith, that the Con expanded its professional offerings far beyond the initial classical instruction of its founding — something to which the founding Director himself, Henri Verbrugghen, didn't even stick for very long at all.
It's with this legacy in mind that we take inspiration from the classic by Edgar de Lange and Josef Myrow (and popularised by trumpeter Harry James), Velvet Moon, and welcome you to join us in celebrating over a century and a decade of virtuosity in diversity.
