Event description

Suono Italiano Sydney 2023

As part of the Suono Italiano Sydney project, started in 2018 in collaboration with the Comitato Nazionale Italiano Musica (CIDIM), the Italian Cultural Institute of Sydney is pleased to present the duo composed by Lorenza Baldo on cello and Martina Consonni on piano.

The duo was formed in 2019 at the International Piano Academy in Imola. Both students in their respective instrument classes with M° Pace and M° Bronzi, Baldo and Consonni decided to create a multifaceted chamber ensemble with the aim of exploring classical but also contemporary repertoires. Moved therefore by a strong passion for chamber music, the two young musicians found themselves from the outset in a perfect interpretative and expressive musical harmony.

The two young instrumentalists are very active both as soloists and with important orchestras such as the O.S.I. (Italian Swiss Orchestra) of Lugano, the Virtuosi Italiani, the Appassionata and other chamber groups.

Baldo and Consonni will perform in Sydney twice: on 5 December at the Institute’s premises in York Street starting at 6.00pm and on 6 December at The Women’s ClubLevel 4, 179 Elizabeth Street starting at 6.30pm.

The program, entitled Fantasie, includes pieces by composers Robert SchumannJohannes BrahmsMario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Igor Stravinsky.

Lorenza Baldo is a young Italian cellist who already boasts participation in important festivals and concert exhibitions in Italy and abroad. In Italy she has performed as a soloist and in chamber ensembles in Venice, Milan, Florence, Bari, Cremona and Merano, while across the border she has performed on the stage in Moscow, Seoul, Basel and Klagenfurt. She played alongside renowned musicians including Bruno Giuranna, Franco Petracchi, Giovanni Gnocchi, Filippo Gamba, Thomas Demenga. She has collaborated with various orchestras in Italy and abroad, such as the Virtuosi Italiani and L’Appassionata, created by the Verona-based Gaspari Foundation. She plays a French Charles Brugères cello from 1900. Martina Consonni is one of the most promising young Italian artists of her generation. Born in Como in 1997, she can boast a diploma in piano obtained at the age of fourteen with top marks and honors, a debut with the orchestra at the age of ten, numerous first prizes in national and international competitions and an intense concert activity Italy and abroad, both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles. She has given recitals all over the world, from Milan to Bologna and then Rome, Paris, New York and London. She has collaborated with numerous instrumentalists such as Enrico Dindo, Enrico Bronzi, Francesca Dego and Daniel Palmizio, among others. She has made several recordings for Venice Classic Radio and for the independent Bartok Studio’s label Movimento Classical. She is currently attending the Master in solo performance at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover.
