Conexiones is a regular group meeting held at PYT Fairfield for artists from Western Sydney of Latin American origin and ancestry. Join us over a meal to talk about your latest projects, ask questions, network and learn more about what is happening in the Australian-Latinx arts community.
CONEXIONES #4
For our fourth CONEXIONES session, we've invited Uruguayan-Australian poet and storyteller Natalia Figueroa Barroso to share her journey as a writer and her passion for supporting other aspiring writers from Latin America.
ABOUT NATALIA
Natalia Figueroa Barroso is an Uruguayan-Australian poet and storyteller of Charrúa, African and Iberian origins who lives on Dharug Ngura. Her work has appeared in the collections Sweatshop Women: Volume One, Racism: Stories on Fear, Hate & Bigotry, Any Saturday, 2021. Running Westward and Between Two Worlds and various literary magazines. And her poems and stories have been shortlisted for the 2025 Flash Fiction Award KYD, the 2015 Lane Cove Literary Award and longlisted for the 2021 Newcastle Poetry Prize, the 2021 SBS Voices Emerging Writers’ Competition and the 2022 Palette Emerging Poet Prize. Hailstones Fell Without Rain is her debut work of semi-autobiographical fiction (UQP, 2025). She posts at @ms_figueroa_barroso
