What We'll Do

6.30 pm - Learn - Making Money with Permaculture

Presented by Adam Gould

Making money might not be your goal, but this presentation will expand your understanding of how we perceive the value of something and its real value.

Have you ever thought about:

  • How much land area or space, or how little, is required?
  • Growing vegetables vs saving heirloom seeds?
  • Breeding regular chickens vs rare heritage breeds?
  • Breeding cattle vs rare breeds?
  • Growing plantation timber vs timber for firewood?
  • Restoring tools?
  • Restoring furniture?

Here's one example. A pumpkin you grow may have $5-$10 worth of flesh to cook and eat. The same pumpkin might have $10-$25 worth of seeds if the seed is saved correctly.  This seed is usually thrown away, fed to chooks or added to the compost. Seed-saving businesses can sell the same seed for $100-$250 from one single pumpkin.

About Adam

Adam is a civil engineer at local government and a permaculture hobby farmer.  His farm is on the southern side of Toowoomba and he's trying to establish a more sustainable lifestyle where most fresh food is grown on the farm.  Adam's passions involve many peculiar interests that include breeding quail and poultry, growing rare seeds to sell, making biochar, growing unusual vegetables, and much more.
