There is a common misconception that Permaculture is primarily about growing food, gardening and farming; however, the People Care ethic highlights the importance of human relationships.

People Care starts with caring for ourselves and then expands to the care of our families, friends, neighbours and wider communities. The aim is to be the best and healthiest version of ourselves so we’re empowered to build authentic relationships with the important people in our lives.

Tania Harvey will tell us about:

The services offered by Lives Lived Well
Why people develop problematic drug and alcohol use
The stigma which affects clients greatly. Lives Lived Well recently ran a stigma reduction program in Western QLD for 18 months.
Lives Lived Well believes that with the right support, people can change their lives.

Following this, we'll break into small groups to discuss proactive ways we can care for self and others.

Tania Harvey

Tania is Clinical Services Manager for Lives Lived Well Southwest QLD and Northwest New South Wales. She looks after a patch from Cloncurry/Longreach to Orange/Dubbo in NSW, and has been with Lives Lived Well for 15 years.
Tania was originally a drug and alcohol lone clinician in Toowoomba, and there are now eight Clinicians in Toowoomba, and one each in Chinchilla, Dalby Warwick, Goondiwindi, and Kingaroy.
Tania started out in an Indigenous program, working solely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. She completed a Human Services degree with an Indigenous Major at University of Southern QLD. She has been in Toowoomba for 15 years but spent the first 48 years of her life in Roma. Tania was previously a Veterinary Nurse for 15 years, trained racehorses, and represented QLD in Sheep dog trialling, so has a good understanding of working and traveling rural and remote. In Roma she also worked in Child Protection, working for Anglicare Southern QLD in their foster care program.
The NSW programs are purely drug and alcohol workers and Tania manages 16 programs, 5 team leaders, and 42 Clinicians.
Her portfolio is passionate about ensuring that rural and remote clients have access to the same standard of services as our city counterparts.

Lives Lived Well provides support for people in Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia with concerns related to alcohol and other drugs, mental health, transitioning from corrective services, veterans’ wellbeing, and gambling.

Our core business is drug and alcohol treatment services and mental health. We have six live in residential rehabs in QLD and three in NSW.
In all our rural positions listed above, we also have low intensity mental health programs, as well as Targeted Psychological Therapies programs for moderate to severe mental health.

Services in Toowoomba include:

Free alcohol and other drug counselling and support services, with specific support for young people and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people – 63 Neil Street, Toowoomba 4350.
Day rehabilitation for alcohol and other drugs.
Targeted Psychological Therapies program, a mental health service for underserviced groups within the Darling Downs and West Moreton regions.
Residential Aged Care Home Group program, a mental health and wellbeing service delivered in aged care homes throughout the Darling Downs and West Moreton regions.
Phone counselling for alcohol and other drugs is available to some QLD areas during normal office hours, Monday to Friday.

7.45 pm – Connect – Light Supper (provided) and Share Table

A light supper will be served (including Gluten Free and Vegan options).

Please bring your own KeepCup or mug so we can reduce waste.

Sharing of produce on the Share Table opens after the presentation to allow plenty of time for everyone to place their donations, and then allow you to browse, connect and make your selections during supper

Do you have surplus?

We encourage you to bring your surplus produce, plants, seeds, books, craft supplies, and resources to share with others at our monthly Connect and Learn evenings.

Some ideas of what you could bring include – fruit, vegetables, herbs, eggs, honey, milk, jams, pickles, preserves, jars, ferments, starters, SCOBYs, seeds, plants, seedlings, cuttings, tubers, pots, tools, gardening magazines, permaculture books, recipes, patterns, manure, coffee grounds, compost additives, worms, mealworms, wool, fabric, craft supplies, soap, natural cleaning products, plastic alternatives, produce bags – the list is extensive.

Please bring whatever you can and then take home whatever you need within our culture of generosity and free sharing

Membership

2025 Membership Fees Due Now

Annual Membership of Permaculture Toowoomba Inc. is due by 31 December each year.
It's only $50 per person or $40 for a second or subsequent adult living in the same home.
Financial Members can attend events and workshops during the year at no cost.
You can pay your membership for 2025 at checkout when you book to attend this event.
Membership forms will be available at the event for anyone wishing to join, or available here for download at http://www.permaculturetoowoomba.com.au/membership/

Parking

Free off-street parking is available under the library (enter from Victoria Street).

Access

The venue has access for wheelchairs, walking frames, and strollers as needed. Everyone is welcome (including children with parental supervision).
